John Schmitz was a California congressman who when he taught political science in college got Carla Stuckle, one of his students pregnant. He continued to see her for many years and fathered a second child. It all came out when the woman was arrested for child abuse and he came forward to serve as her lawyer and confirmed he was the father of the baby whose penis she had wrapped so tightly with hair that it was nearly severed and required surgery.
John Schmitz was a repugnant bigot and racist, too extreme for the John Birch Society that kicked him out because his frequent extremist rhetoric. Yes, really, I searched and searched to find it documented in the press and not just repeated and finally found it. Yes, he was too extreme for the John Birch Society.
I don’t think it’s coincidence that his daughter, Mary Kay LeTourneau raped her own student when he was just thirteen. That they married after her second prison term does not mitigate her raping a child.
His sons followed their father into politics. John Schmitz was deputy counsel to President George H. W. Bush. Joseph Schmit was the Dept. of Defence Inspector General under George W. Bush and a foreign policy advisor to President Trump.
