Christopher Hundl was the pastor of Mountain Valley Church and the Baylor University chapter of Chi Alpha, an ecumenical global campus ministry sponsored by the Assemblies of God. Baylor University is a Southern Baptist private university in Texas with a multi-denominational student body. Hundl was an employee of the Assemblies of God, not Baylor University. He resigned his position shortly before being arrested in May 2023 for allowing minors to be sexually abused by his spiritual mentor, Daniel Savala, a registered sex offender. At the time of his arrest, the sex offender was not named. Savala was arrested in June, 2023. The Chi Alpha chapter was also suspended by the University.
Hundl brought family members, young boys one of whom was eleven, the other close in age, to the home of Daniel Savala (1099) who forced them to masturbate and who touched them inappropriately. He also had Savala at his home when the children were there and permitted similar abuse.
This may be the tip of the iceberg and Savala was associated with several Chi Alpha chapters and the relationship goes back to at least 1012. A lawsuit against Chi Alpha alleges widespread abuse.
