Alek Skarlatos ran for Congress in Oregon’s Fourth District. He became known and honored for his heroic intervention stopping a gunman on a train heading to Paris. This led to Dancing with the Stars and a role playing himself in The 15:17 to Paris, a film about the attack. He ran for Douglas County Commissioner and lost. He also lost his race for Congress in 2020 and 2022.
An interview he did in 2018 did not help his campaigns. In it he made several jokes about women including laughing about women being killed during sex, saying he’s thought about it himself. He made a tasteless joke mocking the death of a woman, not a hypothetical, but an actual woman. He also likes to like pictures of underage girls on Instagram.
He wanted voters to write it off as something that happened years ago, but 2018 is not that long ago.
