John Grant is the pastor of Calvary Gospel Church in Madison. He elevated himself to bishop in 2015. He is also accused of abetting child molesters in his church by shaming the children and women and enforcing their silence to remain in church. He made child rape victims apologize to the church for being raped.
Four women came forward alleging that Calvary Gospel Church fostered a culture of abuse. They were groomed from a young age to accept abuse and pressured to remain silent. Capital Times did an extensive report interviewing thirteen people, the four survivors as well as parents, siblings, church member witnesses, and even a pastor who all corroborate the church’s culture of concealment and sexual abuse.
The four women were all underage when they were assaulted. One was just eleven years old. One of the women created a blog to speak about her experience and many others came forward. Their stories are horrific. When John Grant learned of one child being raped by an adult church member, she was forced to confess her sin to the women in the church and was removed from youth group and expelled from the school.
Another man pursued a child and began raping her when she was fourteen. John Grant learned of it and called the child and her parents in to warn them against ruining the man’s life. The man, Glen Uselmann, married her. After ten years of marriage, she left him and filed charges with the police. He was convicted.
A fifth woman came forward after Cap Times published their story with a familiar story of again, being forced to apologize to the church for being raped by one of the church men.
