Thomas Gilmer, a Q conspiracist, ran for Congress in Connecticut. He entered the Republican primary, was endorsed by the party convention, but was arrested for domestic violence the evening before votes were cast and withdrew the morning of the primary. His opponent, Justin Anderson, and the Republican party chair, J.R. Romano, knew about the incident as the victim gave him a video.
His opponent tried to use the video as leverage to force him from the race. He showed the video, given to him by the victim who did not want to come forward or file charges, to Romano, but rather than pressuring Gilmer to withdraw, Romano accused Anderson of trying to force Gilmer out of the race. Romano said take it the police, even though the victim did not want that because she feared for her life.

Anderson won the primary by 81 votes after a recount saving the party from a mess if Gilmer had won.
