Scott DesJarlais is a Tennessee Republican U.S. representative who has been exposed as a hypocrite on abortion, supporting his ex-wife’s two abortions. But that’s not why he is on the list of Republican Sexual Predators. He had sex with his two of his patients. Also with three co-workers and a pharmaceutical rep. But let’s focus on the patients. He prescribed medication to one of them. They are dependent on him and he has a position of trust and power that he violated. So far with impunity.
Herman Cain, 2012 Republican presidential primary candidate, and avid Trump supporter admitted he agreed to settlements for sexual harassment claims. During his run for the Republican nomination, it came out that two women had complained of sexual harassment and signed non-disclosure agreements in exchange for a settlement. The first allegations were over things he said that made women he worked with uncomfortable. They were anonymous and leaked to the press. However, more allegations surfaced, including one from Sharon Bialek who faced the press in a news conference and described how Cain physically groped her and tried to force her into a sex act.
Matthew Pennell was an aide for Republican U.S. Rep. Tim Huelskamp of Kansas. He was charged with child molestation and possession of child sexual exploitation materials. He was charged with 17 offenses and pled guilty to two in an agreement that resulted in two concurrent twelve-month sentences and registering as a sex offender for life with lifetime supervision. He was given credit for time served before trial, reducing his sentence even more. There is remarkably little newspaper record remaining.
Arizona Rep. Trent Franks harassed his office staff asking them to be a surrogate to bear his child. He and his wife already had twins from surrogacy eight years earlier. I would feel more sympathetic if it weren’t that he retaliated when one woman rebuffed him and that another said he claimed to be in love with her. Also, having gone through surrogacy before, I would presume he knows it isn’t about asking your staff to let you get them pregnant.
Judge Mark E. Fuller was a federal judge in Alabama who was appointed by George W. Bush. He was arrested for domestic violence after assaulting his wife. He was placed on leave and he resigned when it looked like he would be impeached.
Pennsylvania’s US Representative Don Sherwood had a consensual affair which is his and her family’s business, not mine. The woman he had an affair with filed a lawsuit against him for choking her. He settled with her.
Jim Gibbons was the Republican governor of Nevada when he was accused of assaulting a cocktail server as she went to her car. She ran from the parking garage to a nearby hotel where she called 911 when it happened and was clearly in distress. He claimed he was merely helping her when she tripped walking to her car.
He eventually settled a civil suit.
Ralph Lee Aaron was a conservative Southern Baptist pastor at Grace Christian Fellowship Church in Covington County, Alabama. He previously served at two other churches. When he was arrested he was charged with more than 150 offenses, most involved possession of child exploitation materials. He was also charged with sodomy, sexual abuse, and sexual torture of four boys between eight and twelve years old. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to four consecutive life terms.
While James Tracey, Jr. was running for the state legislature in Maine in 1994, he was also facing rape charges in Rhode Island from 1992. He was alleged to have raped an 18-year-old fellow student at the University of Maine. They were attending a hockey game in Providence where it happened. He actually won the primary despite the charges though he lost the general. He then pleaded no contest.
