Robert Goforth was a Kentucky state representative and a gubernatorial candidate. He was arrested in 2020 for strangulation and domestic violence charges. His wife told police he strangled her with a cord until she feared for her life and was about to pass out. In a plea deal, he pleaded guilty to the domestic violence charge and the strangulation was dropped. He was sentenced to 59 days which he gets to serve concurrently with a federal sentence for fraud and money laundering. I think the voters in his district deserve to be called out as well. 71% of them re-elected this abuser even though his indictment for domestic violence and strangulation was common knowledge.
However, he is on the list for his support for Rep. David Byrd, claiming the women who said they were assaulted by Byrd while they were in high school were not credible. He said this even though Byrd has not denied their allegations and apologized, though without admitting guilt.
Cody Henson was a Republican state representative in North Carolina, representing the Transylvania and Mills River area. His wife left him while she was pregnant with their second child, claiming he was overly controlling, frequently threatened her with violence, threw a full can of beer at her in front of their child, and threatened to kill himself, at other times he threatened to kill her.
David Stringer was a Republican state representative in Arizona when it came out that he had reached a plea deal decades earlier that cleaned up his criminal record, a record with child pornography and child molestation.
When the story broke that he had a criminal record that had been expunged, he claimed he made a plea agreement even though it was an unjust, false arrest. He claimed two sex workers named him as a client in order to get out of trouble. That was a complete fabrication. The police records show he was arrested for child pornography and molesting two children.
Fred Anderson is a Republican representative from Great Falls, Montana. He is running for re-election in 2022. You can see his answers to a local paper candidate questionnaire where he states abortion should be illegal at any time for any reason. So no rape or incest exception. Which fits with his failure to do his job as a high school principal and protect his students from a serial predator athletic trainer who abused as many as 200 boys. Brian Ellis was at a bar in 2015, a woman had a fall. Ellis was acquainted with her and offered to take her home, but she alleges he took her to his home. The woman was not voluntarily intoxicated, but she was incapacitated. She thinks she was drugged. She sought medical attention the next day, with a concussion and other injuries. She believes she was raped as she was incapable of consenting while incapacitated. She filed a complaint. Ellis denied her allegations, but resigned under pressure. A grand jury declined to indict.
John Anthony was a former Republican Illinois state representative. He served three years before resigning to take a $10k/month job at the Illinois Department of Corrections. He worked there just a few months as he was fired after a staff party where he groped and assaulted several women. One of the incidents was caught on video. He was fired.
Rod Hamilton is a state representative in Minnesota. He is retiring this year. In 2018, he was accused by a young woman of sexual misconduct, unwanted and nonconsensual touching and kissing. He had been much admired by her because of his advocacy for survivors of sexual assault. She is a sexual assault advocate. When there was a snowstorm that made it impossible for her to drive the more than 200 miles home, he offered to let her stay at his apartment and there he kissed her and touched her even though she had previously told him as a rape survivor that she did not like to be touched. She felt trapped and assaulted, though she makes clear that the misconduct was limited to touching and kissing.
John Moore chaired the State House Education Committee in the Mississippi House when he suddenly resigned for health concerns. However, the Speaker said he was facing sexual harassment allegations from several women. Moore’s resignation ended the House investigation into the allegations. The House no longer has jurisdiction and if the women want to pursue resolution, they would have to file a lawsuit.
