He is pushing a tough-on-crime agenda, while he has been instrumental in helping a former felon and child rapist secure leadership positions in the North Carolina GOP.
Harvey Lee West was the Chair of the North Carolina 1st Congressional District Republicans. He was the moderator of the debate for the Dare County Republican candidates for school board in January 2026. This caused concern as he pleaded guilty to raping children back in 2000.
Scott David Mason is a former lobbyist for Trump’s 2016 campaign. He was a congressional liaison for the Trump transition team. After that, he was hired as a senior policy advisor at Holland & Knight, a law firm that made a record amount in lobbying fees after hiring Mason. He is not a lawyer.

Jonathan David Reep is a popular comedian and comic podcaster. He also won Last Comic Standing Season Five and is known as the Hemi-Guy from an old Dodge Ram commercial. Although he is an unaffiliated voter, he is well-known for his “anti-woke” comedy.
James E. Yokeley, Jr. was the Surry County Board of Elections Chair, a Republican appointed by State Auditor Steve Boliek. He resigned after his arrest for spiking his granddaughter and her friend’s ice cream with MDMA and cocaine.
Ami Medlin was a teacher at Corinth Holders High School in Wendell, North Carolina. Together with her husband, she groomed and pursued inappropriate relationships with students. Initially, the couple was charged with indecent liberties with a student, first-degree sexual exploitation of a minor and sexual servitude.
Michael Medlin is a former sheriff’s deputy and school resource officer in Johnston County, North Carolina. Together with his wife, he groomed one of her students. He was terminated as a school resource officer for inappropriate relationships with students.
