751: Jason Miyares

Jason Miyares was elected the Attorney General of Virginia. In a disgusting campaign, he associated Democrats with being soft on child molesters. He ran with the moral panic outrage that is stigmatizing LGBTIQA people and cosigned the smearing of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson. So, since accepting a plea deal negotiated by prosecutors makes Justice Jackson soft on pedophiles, what does making a plea deal with a child molester do?

He became Attorney General in January 2022. In March 2022, he made a plea deal with Dustin Amos, a pedophile police officer, dropping one of two charges against him. Then publicized it as a success.

In a decision that practically ensures more children will be abused, Miyares handed the investigation of Cumberland Hospital for Children and Adolescents off to a local prosecutor with a small staff, so the resources of the state and its investigators will no longer be brought to bear on an institution accused of neglect and abuse. More than three dozen women allege they were sexually abused. More than fifty people have filed suit against the hospital for abuse. The previous Attorney General Mark Herring had already prosecuted two staff, but now it will depend on what a small, local prosecutor can do. The prosecutor, T. Scott Renick, had not asked for jurisdiction to be returned.
