William R. Luckey was a professor at Christendom College, a conservative Catholic college founded in reaction to changing cultural mores. From Christendom College’s website:
And when it comes to college, studying in an environment that is both intellectually rigorous and morally sound is almost impossible to find. Between ideologically-driven professors, watered-down curricula, and a relativistic and often hedonistic campus culture, it’s difficult to find a college that will help you grow intellectually, spiritually, and professionally. In fact, 80% of those who leave the Faith do so by the time they are 23, leaving one to wonder how their college experience added to this tragedy!
Luckey was arrested, charged with sexually abused a ten-year-old and offering an enticement to a minor under sixteen. He pleaded guilty to misdemeanor offenses of sexual battery and attempted sexual battery in a plea deal. He was sentenced to two years in jail, one year for each offense. Then the jail sentence was suspended. So the only time he served was the time between his arrest and being released on bail – eighteen days. He has two years probation and must register as a sex offender.
The judge said his crimes were serious, but this result kept the victim from being forced to testify. A suspended sentence!!!
