David Dewhurst was the Lieutenant Governor of Texas before he lost to Dan Patrick. He also lost the GOP Senate primary to Ted Cruz. He was arrested in April 2021 for domestic violence after pushing a romantic partner in a struggle. She fell and hit her head. She called police and accused him of assaulting her.
A year earlier, she was arrested for kicking him and breaking two of his ribs but a grand jury declined to indict her.
The DA did not pursue the case stating that there were many alternate programs to address domestic violence.
