Dan Snyder was the owner of the NFL franchise in Washington, D.C., the Washington Commanders, that previously had a notoriously racist name which Snyder repeatedly ignored the public pressure to change. He was alleged to have allowed a hostile work environment for the team’s cheerleaders and for lewd and sexist requests.
In one incident, he suggested a cheerleader go up to a friend’s hotel room and get to know him better. The president of an employee referral agency stopped referring people to the team because of how he treated them. The Washington Post interviewed fifteen women who claimed they were victims of sexual abuse and harassment while working for the team, an atmosphere of poor management by Snyder.
The team paid $1.6 million to settle a lawsuit brought by a woman who claimed she was sexually harassed then assaulted by Snyder in April 2009. In 2022 they offered her $1 million not to talk about her experience.
