Jennifer Van Laar is a GOP campaign operative who worked for the Rep. Steve Knight re-election campaign that lost out to Katie Hill in 2018. She was an editor at Red State, a rightwing news and opinion site. She published a story at the infamously hackish Daily Mail and at Red State that relied on texts and nude photos of Rep. Katie Hill from Rep. Katie Hill’s estranged husband. You’ve heard of revenge porn. This is revenge porn on steroids.
Another person who received a cache of some 700 photos and texts did not use them, but no such decency held back van Laar. Red State published nonconsensual pornography. Rep. Hill resigned and was replaced by Republican Mike Garcia. Katie Hill sued the Daily Mail and van Laar, but her case was dismissed and assessed $200,000 for attorney fees. Hill declared bankruptcy, so it seems the truly awful and amoral van Laar won.
