446: Southern Baptist Convention

The Southern Baptist Convention not only covered up for sexual predators among their fellowship, they often denigrated the survivors. They stonewalled and denied. In addition, predators were aided by the autonomy of individual churches and without sharing information with the Convention fellowship, congregations had no idea they were hiring predators. A few brave survivors took them to task by going to the press and publishing open letters about their experience. This led to a change in leadership who hired Guidepost Solutions to investigate and prepare a report. The result was shocking, over 700 alleged predators between 2000 and 2019 were identified. Time will tell if this changes their practice.

It is important to note that the Southern Baptist Convention is just one of several Baptist associations
