David Whitmire is a Commissioner representing Precinct 3 in Liberty County, Texas. His previous claim to fame was mocking dog advocates by barking and woofing with county judge Jay Knight, prompting calls for their recall. Now, he has been indicted, charged with sexual assault, solicitation of prostitution, and official oppression.
According to the indictment he is accused of asking someone for sex in exchange for help with child custody, offering to pay that person for sex, and sexually assaulting them.
When announcing the indictment, the District Attorney said, “Public officials must be held to a higher standard. When they betray the trust placed in them by the community, they damage not only their own integrity but also the public’s confidence in our system as a whole. I refuse to stand by or be complicit in any “good old boy” system, and by now, that should be clear.”
