Jonathan Ryan Ensey was music director and worship leader at Living Way Church where his father was pastor. He pursued a sexual relationship with a child he met when she was nine. As her pastoral leader, he persuaded her that what he was doing was perfectly fine. So fine that she mentioned to her father that she was in a relationship with him. The father found thousands of texts from him to his daughter including a photo Ensey took from the pulpit referencing fellatio that he sent to a child. (It’s at the bottom of the page. It’s offensive and possibly upsetting.)
The father went to their pastor who happened to be Jonathan Ensey’s father, Randy Ensey. Randy Ensey victimized her again. What Randy Ensey did is blame the child and not tell the police. So the father went to the Texas Rangers. Randy Ensey then went on to get a relative of the victim’s father to pressure him to “have mercy” and he also went to the pastor of the church the victim’s family switched to and asked him to intervene on Jonathan Ensey’s behalf. At sentencing he would not agree that the child was not at fault. There is a petition to remove his pastoral credentials.
Ensey was convicted at a bench trial. He was sentenced to eight years for soliciting a minor and four years for indecency. They are concurrent, so he will only serve eight years.
